RandomWheel

This started in 2017 as a fun project to learn Vue.js. I built the first version with Gridsome, and for reasons I still don’t fully understand it got some traction. A few of the wheels became very popular, so I decided to invest a bit more time in it.

Nine years have passed and I’ve put more hours into this silly project than I’m willing to admit. Users kept asking for things and I kept adding them: private wheels, custom themes, a roulette creator, full-text search, a dashboard.

The more recent additions are the ones I didn’t expect to need. There’s AI moderation, because people will type anything into a public wheel. There’s an AI mode that builds a wheel for you from a prompt. And there’s a wheel score, a ranking that decides which of the thousands of user-made wheels are popular enough to earn a spot in the sitemap. For something that just spins and picks an option, it’s surprisingly complex.
